This week, we open with the discussion and dissection of a lurching hunk of worthless cinema called Drawing Restraint 9. After we tear that apart, we talk a bit about false advertising and then move into the divergent approaches to fixing the economic meltdown that are fighting for dominance. Finally, we talk about one of the great strange items of interest in the homeland: the ever burning town of Centralia, Pennsylvania. Some things you just can't make up. Enjoy!

I seem to remember reading a novel that was partially set in Centralia, it intrigued me enough to do some searching, there is some interesting pictures out there. Another similar situation exists in Oz, the town of Wittenoom has been de-gazetted by the government, meaning it no longer exists. 8 people still live there, and are refusing to leave. No underground fire here though, it had one of the largest asbestos mines in the world, supposedly this has contaminated the whole town.

I\'m wondering if the comment above is from Ben Grundy? I know how much of an audiophile he is. It would be really MYSTERIOUS if it was him.
Apologies if I\'m wrong, just a hunch. I owe Ben Grundy for introducing me to this podcast.

I have always been fascinated with the little pockets of abandoned urban landscape all around us. The prospect of an audio adventure through an entire town is infinitely exciting. An audio adventure supplemented with a flickr page makes my little imagination tingle.

In response to the comment directly above this, clicking the link on the name \\\"Ben\\\" leads to the site of one Benjamin Santiago.

The banks are scared to fuck anymore? Yeah I read that wrong on purpose. Like they would pass up an opportunity. They must be damn Vogons \'cos those guys wouldn\'t even lift a finger to save their mother from the Ravenous Bug-Blatter beast of Traal.

We\'re about six months into this banking clusterfuck and I\'m still sticking to the free-market Samson-Option. I\'m passed caring anymore. Neo-slavery, pure and simple.

As Ripley said, \"I don\'t know which species is worse. You don\'t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.\"

Re: Centralia. That\'s some fucked-up shit. Them\'s the hills I\'m running to...

I\'ve had good experience with Marantz field recorders. Another cool device would be something like a Fostex MR-8 (a cheaper digital multitrack recorder). I\'m pretty sure they can be powered by batteries, and most of them have phantom power so you could plug in a nice condenser mic. One of the experiments I tried in highschool was to use a loop recorder guitar pedal(Boss RC-20XL) and then plug a mic into it and record things that way. I\'m pretty sure the newer ones have SD/CF card inputs so it is not such a retarded idea anymore and most of them have a nice form factor for carrying in a back pack or something.
