Commentary By Joe

Oct 7, 2009

And now for something that will pay off a bit in the future. I want to know what movies you guys would like to hear my commentary on. Think of a Director's Commentary feature from a DVD, except in this case I'm doing the commenting. I've got a plan for these requests, so I'm hoping you guys come up with some good picks. Get to it and give me some good titles to work on!

Hey Big Dave(OZ), I can give you Joe\'s commentary for 5th Element right now,

\"Mila, Mila, Mila, Mila, Mila... I\'m done.\" ;o)

That\'s hysterically true. There will be much Milla adoration to be had.

Joe would have to do Fifth Element with me on board. Otherwise, you would get a doctoral dissertation on the structural perfection of Milla. But no one has said Aliens, or Versus, or even Dead or Alive. It would be interesting to do a string of originals and remakes and see where they improved and failed.

Some of my other suggestions might be too divorced from the Ozone Nightmare \"zeitgeist\", so here are some tried and true movies that will shine with a treatment from Joe.

B movies:

Leprechaun, Roadhouse, Death Race 2000, The Toxic Avenger, Assault on Precinct 13.

Sci-fi:

Stalker, Brazil, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Back to the Future, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solyaris (1972), THX 1138, Star Wars

Action:

Total Recall, Die Hard, Desperado, Hard Boiled, Predator, Speed, True Lies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Shoot \'Em Up, Robocop, Starship Troopers.

Kurt Russel:

Soldier (my favourite Kurt Russel movie), Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York, Escape from L.A.

Uncategorised:

Memento, Grindhouse, Pulp Fiction, Dr. Strangelove, Rear Window, The Birds, Léon, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, The Silence Of The Lambs, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, First Blood.

No real theme or order.

Colossus: The Forbin Project, Eyes Without A Face (Les yeux sans visage), Outland, Lessons of Darkness (Lektionen in Finsternis), Top Gun, 12 Angry Men, Once Upon a Time in the West, Duel, Hana-bi, 10 Canoes, Bad Boy Bubby, Blood and Black Lace (Sei donne per l\'assassino).

Someone\'s playing silly buggers again. The earlier comment is not from me. There is a slight difference between all my earlier posts and that one. Should I arrange a password to prove it in future?

I think a commentary track on something you really hate would be funny, Star Wars Episode 1 for instance. Starship Troopers would be good, or The Fifth Element.

I have to second John Carpenter\'s The Thing. Escape from New York would be good too. In alphabetical order: 25th Hour, Apocalypse Now Redux, The Big Kahuna, Blood Simple, Chinatown, Cube, Ed Wood, The French Connection, Gattaca, In the Mouth of Madness, Narc, Pi: Faith in Chaos, The Running Man, and the incomprable Six-String Samurai.

Sorry for the somewhat exhaustive list, but I think these movies fit with what you\'ve expressed about your taste in cinema.

Sadly, yes you do. This isn\'t a library!

Joe mate, Apu said \"This isn\'t a library\', not comic book guy...You will get a flood of posts pointing this out by animation geeks like myself

Damn, outed myself. Not that big a Simpsons fan. Ah well.

Perhaps one on Buckaroo Banzai, then you could explain to me precisely what I\'m missing.

Seriously, I tried, I didn\'t \"get it\".

I could write a looong list but five that spring to mind would be Clockwork Orange, Man from Earth, The Thing (1980’s remake), Silent running and Blade Runner. Most are Sci-Fi eccentric but classics in the genre which are open to interpretation and speculation in MHO

Joe do I see a resemblance between yourself and the Simpsons comic book guy?
