midnight ink: episode 2

Apr 10, 2009

Long awaited, here is a new Lando solo effort. In this episode, Lando starts off with a bit of his feelings on the falsehood of phantoms and other ghostly apparitions. After that, it's on to the Wolverine workprint leak and what he thinks of the film.

Tell me about \'(OZ), I though for a moment I\'d posted something without telling myself.

Re: Mr. Grundy. I heard he was planning a return later this year. Great voice for radio and, more importantly, pointed me in the direction of the Ozone Nightmare.

I thought you would all like to know that \"(Actually) Cresendo\" is not me. I guess I asked for it.

Like the imposter-Lando comment there are a number of giveaways that in this case I suppose only I could recognise; giveaways such as awkward sentence structure (the first sentence ends abruptly with a run-on question), missing punctuation (\"Ive\" instead of \"I\'ve\", to name just one), and the failure to capitalise \"lando\".

I\'m very anal about my writing and I strive not to commit such basic mistakes.

Anyway, Lando, I agree with you. Like you I can\'t help but feel violated when my online persona is abused in such a manner. As someone who has cultivated identities in many other online forums I understand that those identities come to be as important as your \'real life\' identity. I\'ve found that such hijacking causes a palpable sense of having your personal space invaded, and for me the desire to defend my \'honour\' is very real. Personally I would hate for someone to think that I could write and think so badly. Poor grammar and stupid opinions are not things that I want associated with any of my identities, be they real or online. It\'s like someone pretending to me calling my mother and yelling \"Fuck you, Mum!

The parting shot of \"I feel complimented rather than pissed like lando did\" especially gets my goat. I would be loath to say something so dumb and naive. (Note: This is an example of a direct contradiction with my first comment. I originally said that I didn\'t think Lando was overeacting, so why would I now say that Lando is \"pissed\"? Our imposter has committed another trivial mistake.) It\'s disturbing to see my indentity abused so, and I feel equally disturbed that Lando (through no fault of his own) would respond to it as if it were a legitmate representation of my views. This is the danger that Lando is talking about, and I agree with his position.

\"I\" being me of course, the real Crescendo.

This is some postmodern shit right here.

I was a payed up member of MU as well. It was most definitely not a scam. After he disappeared, he refunded some money for shows he never got around to, and I didn\'t even ask for a refund. It\'s a shame, but I\'ve moved on, I tend not to listen to any of those weirdo shows anymore. Ben\'s shows were unique.

\"Big\" Dave (UK) cut it out, you\'re going to confuse them.

I read imposter-Lando\'s comment before it was removed. For what it\'s worth, I don\'t think Lando overreacted. The post in question was a blatant impersonation mainly because it failed so thoroughly to be convincing (too milquetoast in tone). I was not surprised when I saw Lando\'s clarification.

I suspect that this was simply a poor attempt at a joke, as I find it difficult to believe that a person visiting this small corner of the web would be anyone other than a fan. I think the fact that they knew about the MU interview and that they (purposely?) did such a poor job bolsters that theory.

A small point: In the past someone other than myself has used the name \"Crescendo\" too, although it was most likely just a chance occurrence that we used the same handle. Of course this is not nearly as troublesome as someone using one of the hosts names - that\'s just asking for trouble. Naturally that\'s the the risk one takes with a \'free commenting\' system such as this one. In any case, I hope you guys don\'t decide to enable registration because I like being able to post on a whim and to change my name as I please. I think that Joe enabling moderation will strike the right balance, especially as the number of comments is small.

Hey Crescendo, great comment and I\'m mostly in agreement with you. I don\'t know if this was a joke only because someone attempted to post as me only a day later, but in any event we\'re not going to go the registration route because I\'m no fan of that either. We\'ll stick with moderation and at worst it just means the comments will be a bit delayed in showing up. Thanks for the viewpoint, as always, that\'s what makes this community awesome.

I was hooked on MU for awhile and it was cool. People vanish sometimes not because they\'re malicious, but because the big river opens its lips and drinks them under.
I enjoyed Lando\'s comments on ghosts, and getting tired of all the ghost hunt stuff. I use to watch alot of them shows, and found myself studying how people reacted to fear more than believing they were about to capture an actual ghost.
Cracks me up when I see spooky camera angles of an old hotel or something in the States. Dudes, if ghosts hung out in old places, you would have to wear a hoodie all the time in Spain because all the spirits jammed together would make it so friggin\' cold. There are still 17,000 missing persons buried or burned in this country somewhere, left over from the civil war, and it seems that every public square had a few heretics roasted so often that public outcry over the smell made them move to more rural locations for the executions.
I\'ll still watch those ghost shows though because real people are amazing to watch!

Well (A)C, if a non show entity jumps up on the ozone soapbox and says something stupid/offensive/ridiculous enough to actually turn listeners away, that\'s a problem. Sure, this time it was something benign, but what about that next time? What about when they start making promises about the show and engaging the listeners as if this is their work. You didn\'t build this soapbox (A)C so you aren\'t attached to it like we are. I love this show. I value the fact anyone listens to us and I would rather make sure that if they are engaged by someone who says they are me, it is actually me. Don\'t the listeners deserve it. Anyway...

It would seem a Grundy admirer was ruthless enough to set up a gmail account and fake-post...

Im trying to figure out whats going on here, it appears as if Lando has over reacted just a bit

Joe

Hey Big Dave,

I\'m sure Lando will speak for himself, but I happen to agree with him on this. The comment that was there was pretty lengthy and was a blatant attempt at pretending to be him. Another comment (this time caught, as I am now moderating all comments) I stopped was trying to be me. This is just scumfuck activity. We have never censored anything anyone has ever said, but acting as us? Sorry, that\'s where we draw the line, and rightly so.

Strange you mentioned Ben Grundy - his show \"MU\" went off-line quite some time ago and he himself seems to have disappeared...

He could have been simply been a scammer:

...or... something maliciously mysterious did happen to make him go into hiding.

Okay. I don\'t like when people make posts as me. That is fucked up. As for Ben. I never really listened to MU so I can\'t say much. That was Joe\'s department. Ben was a nice enough guy and had something interesting ideas, why we interviewed him. Otherwise, fake Lando, please do not post as me. You cant even fake me very well for fuck\'s sake. No profanity. No negativity. What the hell! At least try to act like you were me if you are using the name. \"Top shelf quality\" who the fuck even says that. Start to finish man, start to finish.

Joe

OK, let me chime in here. I deleted the comment Lando was referring to, mostly cause I\'m not a fan of fucking liars. Most of the comment was harmless and pro-Ben, which is fine, but this was at the end:

\'BTW if youre a new listner we did a 3 hour interview special with ben early 2007, check it out.\'

Neither Lando nor myself wrote this, even if it is true. The email of the person who posted it was landieloo@gmail.com, so fuck that guy.

On to Ben and MU in general, I\'ve seen those ripoff reports and I was a paid member for a while, and in my own solitary opinion it wasn\'t a scam job but rather a sincere effort that got too big too fast. I noticed within the last few months that the MU site is live again, so we\'ll have to see what the future holds. Finally, let me say that we have never censored comments based on content, just to make sure no one gets confused. I have removed obvious spam posts before, and had this not been a post pretending to be Lando I would have left it. And I agree, who says \"Top Shelf Quality\"?
