Today on the 5: The more I hear about the new Star Wars film, the more I think it
could be a smash hit. That could also be the biggest problem for
the relaunch of the series.
Sorry I'm late to the party but Abrams is not going to direct the next two. Rian Johnson has been tapped to write and direct the next two films. If your unfamiliar with his work please check it out (Brick, Brothers Bloom, Looper, and the Ozymandias episode of Breaking Bad). He's a story guy and plays into Disney's plan. Disney has been running Marvel for awhile now and their strongest weapon seems to be the directors they choose for the films they make. I can't even imagine their conversations that led to the brilliant selections of directors for the later films. "Hey let's get that brother team that only directs television comedy shows to direct this action heavy Cold War-themed spy story featuring a supersoldier and a dude with a winged jet pack." "You know who we should get for this unknown property filled with space aliens and nothing related that much to any of our other previous films? How about that guy who made the movie where Dwight from the Office gets raped by Ellen Page and then he stabs Kevin Bacon in the dick, hey'd be great." Disney knows what the fuck they are doing.
